The Wave That Never Was

May 5th, 2006

Hi All,

By now you have realised that I am still alive! :)

Thanks for the concern peeps, to be honest we only new about the ‘threat’ of a Tsunami after the actual alert had be cancelled! - nice to know they were lookin out for us holiday makers eh :P

Its ok though, coz I had sussed out a good spot on a roof if a disaster should strike (I was sunbathing at the time), and of course with my new-found surfing skills i’m sure I could have surfed out of it anyway ;)

Anyways, there was a wave, but only 2ft tall so nothing to get excited about. Sorry if it worried you all but I supposed the media gets in a frenzy about things like this now. Just at the airport awaiting my flight to NZ, imagine the disasters which loom ahead of me now, like airline food and DVT ;)

Back To Civilization

May 3rd, 2006

Hello!

Well here I am, back in Nadi after a gruelling ;) few weeks on the Fijian Islands. I have done so much over the past 21 days and met so many great people, its been a real travelling experience. I can’t really go through everything that I got up to because otherwise I’d be here all day but some of the highlights include:

  • Diving with sharks
  • Playing volleyball practically every day
  • Drinking Fijian ‘Kava’ - a drink which can only be compared to downing a puddle but helps you sleep easy ;)
  • Visiting Fijian villages and meeting a chief (and paying him $5 for the privilage, which apparently he spends on his holidays to Washington D.C. )
  • Sea kyaking to remote islands - and struggling back through changing rip-tides!
  • Night diving - and finding a turtle, who we then woke up so it made for a better picture
  • Having an amazing birthday on Beachcomber Island - thanks to Daz, Kel, Hanna, Jo for making it a truely memorable event :P
  • Watching a movie under the stars, whilst eating fresh hot popcorn! - hard life eh? ;)
  • Snorkelling amidst a HUGE shoal of fish
  • Seeing the most colourful coral I have ever seen
  • Sailing a 4 man catamaran - thanks to Harri(first mate) and Jo(skipper) for showing me and Daz the ropes
  • Transferring from one tinny boat to another in high seas
  • Sharing my dorm bed with a mouse, who ate my peanuts and then poo’d in the tin! :(
  • Doing many of these things in between unscheduled toilet breaks thanks to a week-long bout of ‘Fijian Tummy’
  • Having a top lad to share all these experiences with. Thanks Daz :D

So now its all over for me in Fiji and I’m moving on to New Zealand (NZ) on the 5th, I have a few days to chill out back at the Nadi Bay Hotel, finishing my books and topping up on the tan, which I have to say is looking pretty damn good now! :)
Flying in to Auckland for my first stop where i’ll be staying for 3 nights and i’ll try and get my camera fixed (or buy a new one) before hopping on a bus tour or meeting some other randoms to go travelling with!

Love to all family back home and hey-up to all me mates - thanks for the birthday wishes :)

P.S. I have been instructed to give a ‘Shout Out’ to two girls from Buxton town…
Sorry Cat and Lins, I don’t do requests :P
